You Can Have Healthy, Radient Skin
You don’t need to spend a lot of money to have healthy, glowing skin. Developing a routine that keeps your particular skin clean, hydrated, and protected can help you look your best. A good daily skin care routine shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes a day.
Following is a list of some steps you should incorporate into your daily skin care routine that will help to keep your skin looking and feeling healthy, clear, and youthful.
Protect your skin from the sun. Ultraviolet (UV) light is the major cause of photo-aging and skin cancer. Over time, UV light breaks down supportive elastin and collagen fibres, causing your skin to sag and lose elasticity. Three steps to reduce your sun exposure include: wear protective clothing, apply sunscreen and stay out of the midday sun.
Don’t smoke. Nicotine in cigarette smoke constricts blood vessels that nourish your skin. Over time, smoking can cause your skin to become pale and sallow. It can also cause deep wrinkles to develop around your lips and slow your skin’s ability to heal.
Eat healthy. Drink at least eight glasses of water every day. Eat a well-balanced diet that includes plenty of protein foods, fresh fruits and vegetables. Foods directly linked to promoting healthy skin contain omega-3 fatty acids, such as flax seeds or flaxseed oil, salmon and tuna fish. The antioxidants vitamin C and vitamin E act like nature’s own protection.
Cleanse gently. The best cleansing routine depends on the type of skin you have. In general, use lukewarm water, a mild soap and a nonabrasive cloth or your fingertips to wash your face.
Exfoliate and moisturize. The winter can dry your skin. More damaging than the cold is the dry heat in our cars, offices and houses. Exfoliate regularly with exfoliating gloves and scrubs in a lukewarm shower (hot water strips the skin of its natural oils). Do not use scrubs on the face as the skin is more delicate there. The next step is to moisturize, a lot.
Shave gently. Shaving can irritate thin, dry, aged skin. Soften the hairs with a warm washcloth before shaving. Change your razor blade often to keep it sharp, and use a shaving cream or gel that softens your hair. Never dry shave!
