Can I Do LASIK Surgery Same Day as your exam?
So, you’ve made the decision to improve your vision with LASER EYE surgery, but you’re wondering: can I do LASIK surgery the same day as my consultation? The answer to this question depends on several factors, including your eye health, the policies of the LASIK clinic, and the specific type of LASIK procedure you’re considering.
Understanding Same-Day Laser Eye Surgery
In some cases, it is possible to undergo LASIK surgery on the same day as your consultation, particularly if you meet certain criteria and the LASIK clinic has availability in their schedule. However, it’s essential to approach same-day LASIK with caution and consider the following factors before making a decision. At the Goldberg Centre Dr. Goldberg is the surgeon and he performs the testing on your eyes as well before surgery to ensure you will benefit from the procedure.
1. Pre-Surgery Screening:
Before undergoing Laser eye surgery, you’ll need to undergo a comprehensive eye examination to assess your candidacy for the procedure. This screening process helps determine whether you have any underlying eye conditions that could affect the safety or effectiveness of the procedure. Depending on the results of your screening, your surgeon may recommend additional testing or evaluation before proceeding with surgery.
2. Patient Education:
Laser eye surgery is a significant decision that requires careful consideration and understanding of the risks and benefits involved. Before undergoing surgery, it’s essential to have a thorough discussion with your surgeon about what to expect during and after the procedure, as well as any potential complications or side effects. This education process ensures that you’re fully informed and prepared for Laser eye surgery. At the Goldberg Centre, Dr. Goldberg takes additional time to explain TRANSPRK (the procedure of choice) to you and goes over any associated risks and expectations
3. Laser Eye Procedure Types:
The type of laser eye procedure you’re considering can also impact whether same-day surgery is feasible. Traditional LASIK, which involves creating a corneal flap, may require additional preparation and planning compared to newer techniques such as bladeless LASIK or TransPRK. Your surgeon will discuss the best approach for your individual needs and circumstances.
We don’t recommend patients do surgery on the same day as their exam. We believe patient care is important. A very big part of patient care is informed consent. Therefore we recommend patients doing procedure 24-48 hr minimum after doing testing.
Ultimately, the goal of LASIK surgery is to achieve optimal vision correction and improve your quality of life. Whether you undergo surgery on the same day as your consultation or schedule it for a later date, the most important thing is to ensure that you’re comfortable, confident, and well-informed every step of the way.
